WHY CANADA?

There Are a
Few Reasons

Why Does Canada Need Immigrants?

Canada has an aging population and low birth rate, but with a vibrant economy that needs skilled workers to fill important positions within many different industries. Canada has a high standard of living with quality health care, excellent public schools, and important social services. Yet Canada does not have enough skilled and talented workers to fill all of the potential vacancies in our economy as our workforce retires. Canada welcomes the families of immigrant workers, as well as refugees seeking a safe place to reestablish themselves, raise their families, and find the peace and prosperity that have eluded them in their countries of origin.

Canada is a safe place with low crime rates and low rates of serious crimes. And with its vast size and varied geography, Canada offers an array of economic opportunities to skilled workers and entrepreneurs, their families, and refugees.

Why Do Canadians Support Immigration?

Canadians are a tolerant people with over 80% of the population supporting immigration. Except for the indigenous populations, Canadians are descended from immigrants: English, French, American, African, Caribbean, Asian. There are Canadians descended from the people of every nation across the globe. We recognize and honor our immigrant tradition by investing money and resources in welcoming over 400,000 immigrants annually. As a tolerant society, Canada welcomes members of the LGBTQ+ communities.

Skilled Worker Immigration Pathways

The majority of immigrants to Canada arrive as skilled workers applying for permission to resettle here, along with their close family members, through the Express Entry or Provincial Nominee Programs.

Close family members means:

  • your spouse or common-law partner
  • dependent children under the age of 22 and not married; or older than 22, if they are still financially dependent or not capable of independence due to a physical or mental condition
  • dependent children of your spouse or common-law partner
  • dependent children of dependent children

Express Entry

Offers three classes for skilled foreign workers to apply for permanent resident status in Canada: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Program.

Each application is scored based on an applicant’s age, education, language skills, and work experience. Every two weeks the highest scoring applicants are invited to apply for permanent resident status. The program is called Express Entry because the process takes about 6 months to complete, far faster than other immigration pathways. Approximately 110,000 immigrants come to Canada each year through Express Entry.

Provincial Nominee Program

Most Canadian provinces and territories have programs that invite skilled workers to come to their region to resettle. You can submit an Expression of Interest to different provinces and if there is a match between your skills and labour needs in that area, you will be invited to apply for permanent resident status. Using the Express Entry process to complete your application raises your overall score, so that your application shines.

Family Class Sponsorship

Family unification is an important federal value, and is responsible for 100,000 immigrants coming to Canada annually. Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their spouses or common-law partners, parents and grandparents, and dependent children to move to Canada. To sponsor family members, the immigrant sponsor must agree to be financially responsible for these relatives. And to help families reunite, there is a Super Visa program to bring parents and grandparents to Canada.
